Dr Susan Du Plessis (GP)

Dr Susan du Plessis studied Medicine at the University of WA, graduating in 2000. She completed her hospital training at Royal Perth and Bunbury Regional Hospitals, and her General Practice Training in Bunbury and Busselton. Later she completed a Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland.

Susan worked intermittently at Synergy Sports Medicine as a locum (relief doctor) for three years before joining the team as a permanent sports doctor in 2017.

Susan’s personal sports interests are in road cycling and mountain biking. She is the mother of two very active children, now aged 19 and 16, who are or have been involved in many sports including the winter sports of ice speed skating and snowboarding, as well as inline speed skating, gymnastics, dance, circus, swimming, basketball, soccer, volleyball and basketball.

Susan has a particular interest in injury prevention and rehabilitation, exercise-induced asthma, the role of nutrition in sports, and helping athletes understand and comply with anti-doping regulations.

Outside of sport and medicine, Susan enjoys learning foreign languages, reading literary fiction, listening to music and attending live theatre, dance and music performances.
