Mr Ruwan Wijesuriya is a consultant in General Surgery, at St John of God Midland Public and Private hospital and A/Professor (Adjunct) at the University of Notre Dame, School of Medicine in Western Australia. He underwent undergraduate and basic surgical training in Sri Lanka. His higher surgical training was at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, in general surgery, hepato-biliary and liver transplantation. On completion of his training in Australia he returned to Sri Lanka to serve the country as the lead consultant in hepato-biliary and transplant surgery, for a period of 3 years. The team he lead had the honour of performing the first ever successful living donor liver transplantation in Sri Lanka. After establishing a state of art Liver Transplant Unit in Colombo (Sri Lanka), he proceeded back to Perth to accept a post as a specialist surgeon. He is a keen researcher who has published widely in peer reviewed journals and supervises medical students and post graduate trainee surgeons. Mr Wijesuriya performs a wide spectrum of general surgical and liver operations including hernia, gall bladder and removal of lumps.
