Dr Stephen Read graduated from the University of Queensland in 1988, and undertook most of his post-graduate training in Neurology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, before completing a PhD in Stroke Neurology at the National Stroke Research Institute, Austin Hospital, Melbourne.
He returned to Brisbane in 1999 to commence private practice, and has been a Visiting Neurologist at St Andrew’s ever since. He was a Visiting Neurologist at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital from 1999-2011, helping to establish the RBWH Stroke Unit in 2001.
While Dr Read maintains a clinical interest in stroke and cerebrovascular disease, he has a broad interest in neurological disorders, including headache, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, and provides an EEG and EMG service.
