Australian born, Dr Steve Freeman grew up in South Africa, graduating from the University of Cape Town in 1990. Steve began his career in Cape Town in General Practice, Obstetrics & Occupational Medicine. Following this, Steve began to practice in Sports Medicine and has had an increasing role in the field ever since. From 2005 Steve has been on staff at multidisciplinary specialist sports medicine centres, worked alongside many excellent orthopaedic surgeons, and ran clinics at The Kings School, Parramatta. In addition, over the last 10 years, has had roles with numerous sporting organisations and across a wide range of sports (including 3 years with an NRL team), but with increasing involvement in rugby union – holding several positions in both NSW Rugby and the Australian Rugby Union. For the last 3 years, among other positions, has been the team doctor for the national U20 rugby team and been involved with Super Rugby as a match day doctor. In November last year, Steve moved to Canberra to take up a position as team doctor with the ACT Brumbies – a role which allows him to continue to use his experience in General Practice and accumulated experience and expertise in Sports Medicine.
