Dr Sophia Lahz is a Rehabilitation Physician who qualified for Fellowship (FAFRM [RACP]) in 1994. She also holds a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (Royal College of Physicians, London 1989) and Certificate in Geriatric Medicine (UNSW 2004). She has held various Staff Specialist and VMO Positions in Rehabilitation Medicine at Bathurst Base, Orange Base, Katoomba, Nepean and St Vincent’s (Bathurst) Hospitals.
Dr Lahz has broad clinical experience in areas such as traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, work and motor vehicle-related injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, rehabilitation of older people and lower limb amputation.
She has been preparing medico legal reports for 15 years for cases of chronic back, neck and extremity pain, orthopaedic injuries, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.
She was the Visiting Medical Officer for the Midwestern Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service in Bathurst for 20 years (1995-2015). She was also a Visiting Medical Officer at the prosthetic and orthotic clinic at Orange Base Hospital from 2011-2013. She was the visiting physician for the Bathurst Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) from 1997-2014.
She has been an Approved Medical Specialist with the NSW Workers’ Compensation Commission since 2002 and a Medical Assessor for the NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) since 2005. She is an Appeal Panel member for the NSW Workers’ Compensation Commission. Dr Lahz is an Injury Management Consultant (IMC) for NSW Workcover. She is also a member of the Medical Review Panel for the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) of NSW. She is a current eligibility and treatment dispute assessor for the Lifetime Care and Support Authority of NSW.
She is regularly a locum for rehabilitation physician colleagues at various inpatient rehabilitation units including Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Hobart and Gold Coast.
