Dr Barnett graduated from the University of Queensland in 1982 and after spending his formative hospital years in Ipswich and Mt Isa, He commenced his General Practice career in Beaudesert where he combined General Practice with Obstetrics and Anaesthetics. He subsequently spent three years from 1999 at Boonah, combining General Practice with the role of Medical Superintendent at the local Hospital. From 2001 he returned to his home town of Ipswich and has been actively involved as the educator of medical students at the UQ Ipswich Medical School as well as mentoring numerous doctors as they have completed their General Practice specialist training whilst attached to East Clinic and UQ Healthcare.
