Dr Shilpanjali Jesudason (Nephrologist)

Dr Jesudason (nee Prasad) is a Staff Specialist in the Central and Northern Adelaide Renal and Transplantation Service and also consults in Obstetric Medicine and Nephrology at the Women's and Children's Hospital. She trained at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and St Mary's Hospital Transplant Unit in London before returning in 2004 to undertake PhD studies at the Basil Hetzel Institute, Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She has a research background in transplantation immunology, particularly dendritic cell biology in humans and non-human primates. Her current clinical interests include the management of pregnancy-related issues in women with renal disease, including CKD, dialysis and transplant patients. She is also interested in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including the pathogenesis and long-term sequelae of of pre-eclampsia. Her current research projects involve defining blood and placental dendritic cell phenotype and function in normal pregnancy versus pre-eclampsia, and further defining maternal and fetal outcomes in pregnancies from women with renal failure or renal transplantation.
