Dr Sarah Beaney (Psychiatrist)

Dr Sarah Beaney is a specialist Old Age Psychiatrist experienced in working with older patients (aged 65 and over) who have both functional and organic illnesses. She also has an interest in early onset dementia, and has expertise in diagnosing and treating dementia in younger adults. Dr Beaney has been a consultant in old age psychiatry since 2007, when she completed her senior training in this discipline. She graduated from Southampton University School of Medicine with a Bachelor of Medicine in 1999, following which she worked full time in the National Health Service in the UK, where she completed her psychiatry training. She then worked as a consultant Old Age Psychiatrist in a multidisciplinary team in the South of England, treating both community patients and inpatients. In 2012 she relocated to North Queensland, and has continued to work with older adults who have mental illness and/or dementia. She has an interest in education, having achieved her Masters in Professional Education from the University of Winchester in 2008. She has been working with medical students at James Cook University since 2013, and has had a co-ordinating role with junior Doctors within the Mental Health Service Group in Townsville. Dr Beaney and her family have enjoyed the move to Townsville and are now well settled in the local community. She is happy to receive referrals for patients with mental health issues associated with ageing, or for patients of any age who require assessment for possible dementia, or management of psychological or behavioural issues associated with dementia.
