Dr Ryan Schrale is a Cardiologist, specialising in General and Interventional Cardiology, with special interests in medical and interventional treatment of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, peripheral vascular procedures, and percutaneous treatment of structural heart.
Dr Ryan Schrale MBBS MSc FRACP FCSANZ FSCAI FESC is an independent Consultant Cardiologist at the Mater Hospital Townsville, a Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the Townsville Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the James Cook University School of Medicine. A graduate of the University of Adelaide, Dr Schrale undertook physician training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and then Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide. In 2005-6 Dr Schrale held a postgraduate clinical interventional fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. He then moved to the USA for the 2006-7 Senior Cardiovascular Medicine Interventional Fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and was a concurrent Clinical Fellow at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. During this time he also undertook a MSc in Evidence Based Health Care at the University of Oxford. Returning home to Australia, Dr Schrale worked in Adelaide for three years before relocating to the warmer climate of Townsville in 2010. Dr Schrale is active in local and international medical research, mentorship, teaching, and medical education. Dr Schrale has particular expertise in: Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting, Rotational atherectomy(rotablation),Intravascular Ultrasound(IVUS),Fractional Flow Reserve(FFR) coronary assessment,Renal Artery Angioplasty and Stenting(stenosis or fibromuscular dysplasia, Aortic Valvuloplasty, Atrial septal defects (ASD), patent foramen ovale (PFO) and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) percutaneous closure.
