He performs the full range of structural interventions including TAVI, PFO / ASD closure, percutaneous treatments of aortic and mitral valves, left atrial appendage occlusion and renal denervation amongst others.
Dr Hilling-Smith is a TAVI proctor, providing on-site training, evaluation and observation of other cardiologists and healthcare professionals on the safe and correct use of transcatheter aortic valve replacement. He ensures appropriate selection of patient, device and system, implant technique, and recognises and addresses special clinical conditions, such as potential complications.
He studied medicine at Edinburgh University, Scotland. He trained in general medicine at Fremantle Hospital and cardiology at the prestigious MonashHeart in Melbourne. Dr Hilling-Smith is now a proctor (teaches other consultants) in structural techniques including TAVI procedure. He has published several research manuscripts, written a book chapter and spoken at international conferences.
