Doctor Bob Kass is Medical Director of Globe Medical. He holds specialist qualifications in paediatrics and public health medicine and is one of Australia’s pioneers in the discipline of travel medicine. After working overseas for a number of years, he returned to Australia in 1989 and took the role of General Manager and National Medical Director of the Travellers Medical & Vaccination Centre. Over a twelve year period he grew the organisation from just two to more than twenty-three centres throughout Australia and internationally. He was Chief Executive Officer of Travel Doctor TMVC Pty Ltd for eight years. He also served on the board of the International Society for Travel Medicine (ISTM) for three years.
In 2005 he established Globe Medical; a diverse medical centre providing primary care services for international students and inner city workers as well as outbound travellers. Globe Medical is internationally recognised for excellence in the practice of travel medicine. He believes it is important for doctors to maintain general medical skills while still looking after international travellers.
Bob has vast international experience, having worked overseas in public health, paediatrics and tropical medicine. “Personal experience in travel” is fundamental for the practice of travel medicine. His work has taken him to Western Samoa, Papua New Guinea, United Kingdom, Tonga, Tokelau, Uganda, India, Nepal and Burma. In recent years he has experienced a number of extreme treks including Kokoda, Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Kinabalu. Bob’s extensive and diverse international experiences allow him to offer rich and invaluable insights at health briefings. These are given to employees and their families being placed in medium to high risk overseas locations. He is also Medical Advisor to a number of volunteer groups including the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD), Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID), Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) and Engineers without Borders (EWB).
