Professor Casson is an internationally recognized ophthalmic surgeon with research interests in glaucoma, neuroprotection, ophthalmic epidemiology and translational ophthalmic research. He graduated with Honours from Adelaide Medical School in 1992 and undertook ophthalmology specialty training in South Australia. He completed subspecialty training in glaucoma at the Oxford Eye Hospital. Following the completion of clinical training, he was awarded a scholarship to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) at Oxford University in the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology. He is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and is a founder and Vice Chairman of the Adelaide-based charity, Sight for All, which trains eye doctors in the developing world. He constantly remains up-to-date on the latest advances in glaucoma management developed in Australia and overseas, including recent surgical techniques and the evidence base supporting their use (or not) in various clinical situations
