Dr Rhys Morgan graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1981. Having completed his residency at the Mater Misericordiae Public Hospital complex, he completed his anaesthetic training on the Southside Anaesthetic training programme in Brisbane. He then travelled to the UK where he completed advanced training in both General & Cardiac anaesthesia. On returning to Brisbane he became a staff anaesthetist and subsequently a VMO at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. In 1990, Dr Morgan entered private practice by joining the newly formed Wesley Anaesthetic group. His early practice included neurosurgical, vascular and obstetric anaesthesia, however his special interest was the provision of anaesthesia for luminal gastro-enterology, which now dominates his practice. Dr Morgan is considered an expert in this particular of anaesthesia sitting on a number of Medical Advisary committees of various hospitals. The other particular interest Dr Morgan has is his long standing involvement in the provision of anaesthesia for Breast & Endocrine surgery. He has had a weekly involvement in this area for over 20 years, both in the public & private setting and as such has extensive experience in all areas of surgery of the breast, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals and other endocrine organs. He is considered one of the senior associates of Wesley Anaesthesia & Pain Management, having recently served as chairman. In 2001 Dr Morgan completed a theology degree with the Australian College of Theology. He has a long history of involvement in oversees aid work, particularly in China, where he has provided training and the provision of paediatric anaesthetic services for orphaned children. He presently oversees the development of a Rural Health programme aimed at educating rural health workers in Shaanxi province. Dr Morgan presently serves as a board member of three ‘Not for Profit’ charity organisations’.
