Dr Ratna Ratna is a Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist who is effective in providing treatment for adults experiencing severe levels of depression and anxiety. She sees clients who present with anxiety disorders such as generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, and mood disorders including those that have been treatment resistant.
Dr Ratna has a special interest in disorders related to trauma including complex trauma, attachment trauma and betrayal trauma. She utilises medication management and psychotherapy with the aim of reaching a state of minimal or no medication at the completion of therapy. Dr Ratna possesses a unique set of skills and is experienced in delivering Phase Oriented Therapy, Hypnotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), where appropriate and for the benefit of her patients.
Dr Ratna has had a wide and varied life experience. She spent some of her childhood in England, America and Germany and commenced practising as a Doctor in India. Dr Ratna worked in Iran for a number of years during the Iran-Iraq war, after which she returned to India to work in a medical clinic for women and children. She has conducted research and study in the area of genetics and anatomy and has been working in Australia for the last twenty years.
Dr Ratna’s rich life experience has given her an understanding of the complexities of what people struggle with in different circumstances and cross-cultural contexts. As a result Dr Ratna has a deep appreciation for the individuality of every person. She is someone who possesses great empathy for the loneliness that a person can experience when their differences and problems cause them to feel alone in the pain of their lives. Working within the conversational model, the therapy conversation explores meanings and existential questions, and offers different answers, so that clients may come to learn that life really isn’t as difficult or unsafe as it felt like before.
Being a qualified Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, patients seeing Dr Ratna are entitled to Medicare rebates for services. Once a family reaches the Medicare safety net, the rebate can be as much as 85% of a session fee, making comprehensive mental health care very affordable.
