Dr Ralph McConaghy graduated from UQ Medical School in 1979 before undertaking six years of postgraduate training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Following qualifications in Obstetrics and nearly 20 years conducting high quality general practice with a wide range of interests, including general practice in 1992 (FRACGP), Dr McConaghy moved to the UK to gain more knowledge in oncology and palliative care. He later received a Master of Primary Health Care majoring in Palliative Medicine (MPHC) from Flinders University SA in 1998 and in 2004, Dr McConaghy received a Master of Management of Pain (MMed) from the University of Sydney.
In 2007, Dr McConaghy was appointed Director of the Wesley Palliative Care Service. It is his desire, wherever possible; to reduce the burden of the disease and its treatment, provide practical assistance and support with the full involvement of patients and families, allowing an increase in their choice and control.
