Dr Prashan “Prash” Kuruppu moved to Clare Medical Centre in late 2016, to complete the final stage of his fellowship with the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine (ACRRM). Born in Sri Lanka, Prashan completed his undergraduate medical training at Manipal University (India). Upon returning to Sri Lanka, he continued his medical career with the World Health Organisation carrying out research in Public Health Policy and Economics within the South East Asian region, before relocating to Australia in 2007. Prashan began his training in Australia, in Emergency and Intensive Care medicine but soon progressed to specialise in Anaesthesia. He has gained a wealth of experience having worked in metropolitan South Australia and the Northern Territory. Ever-exploring new horizons, Prashan decided to combine his passion for anaesthesia whilst serving rural communities by becoming a Rural Anaesthetist. This has given him the unique opportunity to practice real-world anaesthesia by transporting specialised services to a range of rural communities. Furthermore, he also works with the SA Ambulance /MedStar Retrieval Service during acute emergencies to stabilise and transfer patients from remote locations. In addition, Prashan has a keen interest in all aspects of rural general practice especially addiction medicine, pain medicine, child health, men’s health and aboriginal health. He also enjoys teaching the next generation of clinicians, and participates in the John Flynn Placement Program as a mentor to rural medical students. In his spare time, he helps fundraise for Variety SA; a volunteer based international children's charity, which raises money for sick, disabled and underprivileged children within South Australia
