Dr Phillip Melksham studied at the University of Queensland and obtained his Engineering Degree (Hon) in 1985. His enthusiasm and involvement in biomedical equipment design led him to study Medicine and he completed his Medical Degree in 1993. He subsequently worked in Intensive Care for 6 years and completed his Anaesthetic training and obtained his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetics in 2008. He has a special interest in cardio-thoracic anaesthesia and has undertaken advanced post-graduate training in Esophogeal Echocardiography.
Dr Melksham has been an Anaesthetist with the Narcosia Group in Brisbane since 2008. His areas of anaesthesia practice include upper and lower limb orthopaedics, gastrointestinal surgery, ophthalmology, breast & endocrine surgery, dental surgery, gynaecological and reproductive women’s health and endoscopy. Extending his ongoing interests in biomedical equipment design, Dr Melksham has developed a comprehensive practice in regional anaesthesia for orthopaedic and gynaecological surgery.
He enjoys his work as an anaesthetist, appreciating both the human contact he has with each individual patient and the technical nature of this area of medicine. In particular he values the trust his patients place in his care. Outside of medicine and his family he spends his time in his boat chasing the elusive flathead and mangrove jack of the Queensland estuaries or he is an enthusiastic golfer.
