Dr Paul Beaumont has been a prominent medical retinal specialist in Australia for over three decades and has led the profession in the management of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion. He has pursued active clinical research into major retinal disorders. He is a founding director of the Macular Degeneration Foundation and served the first chairman’s term. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and trains doctors worldwide in his approach to managing macular degeneration. He has been a pioneer in intensive counselling for patients with macular degeneration.

Dr Beaumont is a past chairman of the NSW division of the Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and the Committee of Chairmen of the College. He is the chair of the Medical Committee and NSW State Branch for the Macular Degeneration Foundation. He has been involved in volunteer work in Burma since 2007.
