Dr Paul Annett (Sport and Exercise Medicine Specialist)

Dr Annett graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of New South Wales in 1994 with 1st Class Honours. He completed his advanced training in Sports Medicine in 2000 and was awarded the College Medal for the Australasian College of Sports Physicians Fellowship examinations.

Dr Annett has had significant involvement in a number of different sporting arenas, the majority involving the National Rugby League. He has spent 12 months at the AIS covering a number of different Olympic Sports and worked at the Sydney 2000 Olympics in athlete care at both the Olympic Village and track and field. He has had an involvement with the Sydney Swans AFL club in the late 1990’s and the Canberra Raiders in the early 00’s.

More recently he has been the team physician for the St. George Illawarra Dragons since 2005. At a representative level he has been the physician for the City Origin team since 2002 and has recently been appointed the physician for the 2009 Kangaroos team.

Academically Dr Annett has been involved with the distance delivery of sports medicine education to medical practitioners through the UNSW Masters Sports Medicine Programs, where he is currently the deputy director. He has also published clinical papers in peer reviewed sports medicine journals.

He has a clinical interest in lower leg overuse syndromes and performs compartment pressure tests for exertional compartment syndrome. Other clinical interests include foot and ankle disorders and both acute and chronic shoulder injuries. He also enjoys managing traumatic the traumatic injuries particular to contact sports, such as rugby league.

Dr Annett has been consulting in the southern area of Sydney for over 10 years.
