Dr Howson is a Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon at Concord and Auburn Hospitals. Having completed her surgical training in Sydney Australia, she undertook further local and overseas Breast Surgery Fellowships, gaining extensive experience in the surgical management of both benign and malignant breast disease with a particular focus on reconstructive approaches including implant and flap based reconstruction. Of note, she has introduced the technique of lipofilling, or fat grafting, as another tool in the Concord armamentarium of breast reconstruction in the setting of breast cancer.

Dr Howson continually strives to provide high standard evidence-based patient-centred care delivered within a multidisciplinary framework, ensuring that patients, their families and fellow staff members, come first. Patients with breast cancer are discussed within the Breast Multidisciplinary team meetings held weekly at the Hospital.

Dr Howson also has a subspecialty interest in Endocrine surgery, specifically benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, and was involved in the setting up of Endocrine multidisciplinary meetings at Concord Hospital. She is actively involved in the on-call roster for General Surgery at both Concord and Auburn Hospitals and performs a spectrum of laparoscopic and open general surgery as well as endoscopies. She is a Clinical Lecturer at Sydney University and is also an examiner of medical students at both Sydney University and Notre Dame University. Research remains a priority as demonstrated by her commitment to MD students.
