Dr Nadine de Alwis is an Australian trained and fully qualified Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon. Born in Sri Lanka, Dr Nadine de Alwis migrated to Australia with her family at the age of four. She grew up in Melbourne and completed a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Melbourne, graduating in the top 15% of her class. In 2006 Dr Nadine de Alwis started internship and early surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and completed one year of General Surgery training before commencing Ear, Nose and Throat Specialty surgery in 2011. Over the next 6 years she rotated at prestigious Victorian hospitals including The Royal Children’s hospital, Monash Health and St Vincent’s hospital. She gained experience in head and neck trauma at the Alfred Hospital and in 2017 underwent advanced surgical training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. She is now a fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and member of The Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (ASOHNs). In 2018 Dr Nadine de Alwis moved to Cairns where she worked as an ENT surgeon in the public and private sector. Here she helped treat indigenous Australians in particular with respect to middle ear disease and tropical ear conditions. In 2019 she relocated Sydney to work as the neurotology fellow at St Vincents Hospital. Under the mentorship of Dr Nigel Biggs, Dr Philip Chang and Dr Sean Flanagan she gained experience in advanced ear surgery (neurotology) specifically cochlear implant surgery, bone conduction implants, stapedectomy and vestibular schwannoma skull base surgery. Currently Dr Nadine de Alwis is based full-time in Ballarat.

Despite her dedication to her craft, Dr Nadine de Alwis managed to foster a healthy family life and is a proud mother of two. She is among only a few female surgical trainees who chose to have a children during training. She continues to be a role model for women wanting to pursue a surgical career.

Dr Nadine de Alwis has specific interest and experience in Otology (ear surgery), Paediatric ENT surgery (Adenotonsillectomy), Rhinology (nose surgery), Laryngology (voice surgery), General Head and Neck surgery (e.g. Parotidectomy, submandibular gland removal).
