Dr Nada Rawof MBChB, FRACGP, Postgraduate Diploma in Obesity and Weight Management (South Wales University, UK). Dr Rawof finished her family physician / general practitioner fellowship through the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2003. She then underwent extra training in women’s health and is currently finishing her Postgraduate Diploma in Obesity and Weight Management. She is very interested in metabolic syndrome and obesity. It is one of her greatest passions to establish and provide comprehensive management of obesity and metabolic syndrome. The scope of the bariatric physician is an area sadly overlooked in Australia, it is very important part of managing obesity properly. Providing comprehensive management of very common medical problem is essential. Obesity is the most common disease affecting the population, but how many bariatric physicians we have compare to cardiologists, gastroenterologists, — etc. Some endocrinologists have interest in managing some aspect of obesity but nowhere near the needed cover. Navigating through medication, medical conditions and individual patient needs and requirements can be quite complex, and unfortunately I do see significant number of patients disadvantaged due to improper understanding of their individual circumstances.
