Dr Michael McKeough is a specialist in the assessment, diagnosis and management of skin cancer in the primary care setting. He has extensive experience and training in the area of skin cancer medicine and surgery, and a thorough, caring and patient-centered approach to his practice.

Michael completed his undergraduate degree in Science (medicine), and Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) with Honors through the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

Following graduation from his undergraduate degree, he moved to Queensland to complete his Internship and Residency years, during which time he developed a strong interest in surgery and in particular the assessment and management of skin cancer and reconstructive surgery.

Michael completed his General Practice training with focused extended skills training in the area of skin cancer medicine and surgery. Michael went on to complete his certificate in Primary Care Skin Cancer Medicine and certificate in Primary Care Skin Cancer Surgery, as well as certificate in Advanced Skin Cancer Surgery (head and neck, nose and lower limb) through the University of Queensland.

Following this, Michael has gone on to complete the Advanced Surgical Anatomy Course and a two years Masters degree in skin cancer medicine and surgery through the University of Queensland, with his final project focusing on reconstructive options for defects on the nose. As well as advanced skills training in anaesthetics and further hospital-based training in general and plastic surgery with a strong focus on reconstructive techniques following skin cancer excision.

Michael has a thorough understanding of the core principles of skin cancer, including the normal anatomy, development of and physiology of the skin, the biology and pathology of skin cancer, principles of dermatology and surgery in primary care, risk factors for the development of skin cancer and associated conditions, skin cancer incidence and mortality and skin cancer prevention. He has a great deal of experience in managing a broad range of clinical problems, including benign lesions, pre-malignant lesions, malignant non-melanocytic lesions, nevi and melanoma. He is expert in skin cancer consultation, including thorough skin cancer history and examination, as well as modern imaging techniques to aid in management.

Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his Wife and two children, and enjoys travelling, reading, and playing tennis.
