Dr Michael Khong (GP)

Dr Khong was first qualified as a GP in London, UK in 1995 where he spent some time working in private practice before emigrating to Australia in 2003. He also practiced medicine at Bath Street Medical Centre in Alice Springs, and worked at Burdekin Family Practice in Ayr before joining the team at Fairfield Waters Medical Centre in 2007. He stayed in athe area after the floods of 2019, and joined Fairfield Central Medical Practice in December 2019, currently working there and at Magnetic island Medical Practice on Fridays. He now majors in Skin Cancer Medicine, eschewing general practice because of the demand for patients with skin cancer.

Dr Khong attended the Charing Cross and Westminster Hospital Medical School, University of London where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1984 followed by a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1988. He has been a Fellow of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners since 2004.

Dr Khong was born in Malaysia and is married with four children. Dr Khong prides himself on providing a high and comprehensive level of skin cancer care to local Townsville residents.
