Michael Ireson is a registered medical practitioner, specialist trained General Practitioner and is the principal General Practitioner at Atune Health Centres.

Having gained his Bachelor of Medicine through Newcastle University, Michael went on to complete his early years as a doctor in the various hospitals of the Hunter New England Area Health Service. This included work in general medicine, respiratory medicine, acute medical care, oncology, paediatrics, general surgery and emergency medicine. Subsequent to this, he worked for a number of years as a locum in various Emergency Departments and in the Short-Term Residential Aged Care Service of HNE Health (STRAS), and has completed extended skills training in Ear Nose and Throat Surgery. He also continues to work in after-hours medical practice in addition to his regular daytime practice.

Michael was drawn into General Practice as it provided an opportunity to invest in his patients’ health over the longer term and to work in a broad scope of practice. He has undergone the rigorous training required to qualify as a specialist General Practitioner, receiving a fellowship into the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Michael is delighted to working as part of a team of practitioners who desire to work together with their patients to see positive changes in health in all domains of life. There is a shared understanding that the best health care can only be achieved by addressing all of these areas and understanding their impacts on each other.

Michael and his wife Kendall have 4 delightful children, and after hours Michael can most often be found enjoying their company. He also enjoys reading in many diverse areas, playing football (the round ball version), running and playing music.
