Growing up in Geraldton gave Meg Henze a wonderful sense of rural community and this guided her decision to return to work in Albany as a visiting Endocrinologist — allowing her to escape city life and give back to regional areas which she finds so rewarding.

Meg will be returning to Albany having worked at the Southern Regional Medical Group as a Junior Doctor in 2011.

Meg completed her MBBS with Honours in 2009 from the University of Western Australia. During her undergraduate medical degree, she was able to return to Geraldton for a year as part of the Rural Clinical School. Post graduation, Meg had exposure in a broad range of specialties, and completed a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2012.

She commenced physician training and after successfully passing the Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physician exams in 2014, progressed into advanced training in Endocrinology and was awarded the FRACP in 2017. Meg’s Advanced Endocrine training was undertaken at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Sir Charles Gardner Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Her special interests now include all aspects of Adult Endocrinology and Diabetes with a sub-specialty interest in endocrine disorders in pregnancy (including gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes). Meg is currently involved in researching the impact of dietary interventions (supper snacks) on fasting blood glucose levels in gestational diabetes. She has several first author publications in the areas of thyroid and diabetes.

Meg also has a public appointment as a sessional Endocrinology Consultant at Royal Perth Hospital and will now be visiting both Geraldton and Albany as a private specialist.

Outside of medical life, Meg is also drawn to Albany because of its peaceful lifestyle, picturesque scenery, wineries, Anzac memorial, beaches and walking trails.
