Dr Wilkinson is a visiting medical officer at The Townsville Hospital. He is the co-director of the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland (ORIQL) and is an adjunct senior lecturer at James Cook University. For the last 2 years Dr Wilkinson has operated his private practice in Pimlico. He operates at the Mater Hospital on a weekly basis.
