Matt is originally from South Africa where he obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He immigrated to New Zealand in 2003 where he completed his Fellowship in General Surgery within hospitals around the North Island. He was selected for the ANZGOSA Subspecialty Training program for Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery in 2012. Matt has been the Upper GI Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner and Fremantle Hospitals. A significant amount of his training has included Pancreatic & Obesity surgery and interventional endoscopy. Matt’s been tempted by Perth’s people and weather and has made WA his home. His interests include the surgical treatment of morbid obesity, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernias, achalasia, gallstones, abdominal and inguinal hernias. He is also involved with surgical treatment of gastro-oesophageal malignancies. He performs gastroscopies and colonoscopies.

Matt is married to Cara, his beautiful wife and together they have a daughter and a second child expected mid-2015. He enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, photography, squash and can play the drums.
