Dr Atkins is a psychiatrist who specialised in the Psychiatry of the Elderly in the UK. Having worked as a consultant in the UK, he moved to Victoria in 2001, and to the Gold Coast in 2010. He is currently the Director of the Older Persons Mental Health Services of the Gold Coast HHS.
A previous member of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatrists in the UK, he is a current member of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Atkins’ areas of particular expertise with the elderly include cognitive disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, and anxiety disorders, including PTSD in older military veterans.
Dr Atkins has a number of peer-reviewed publications and is currently involved in research with Griffith University. When time allows, he enjoys bush walking, and is an occasional but bad surfer, spending more time in the water than on the board.
