About Dr Middleton graduated from the University of WA in 1980. After internship and residency at Fremantle Hospital, spent a year in the NHS as a Senior House Officer in anaesthesia before returning to the GP training programme in WA. After more than 10 years in geriatric medicine, he returned to general practice in Fremantle and became one of the founding principals of Ellen Street Family Practice in 2003.
Special Interests Family Medicine : the scope and variety of general practice is constantly challenging and engaging. Mens Health : Most men develop a concern for their health when a friend falls ill. It's never too late to start taking care of body and mind. Marcus works closely with other health practitioners at Ellen Health and the Fremantle community to inspire blokes to make healthy changes in their lives. Lifestyle Medicine & Preventive Health : About 70% of modern health problems have a lifestyle-based cause. Lifestyle Medicine takes conventional medicine into the area of health promotion and disease prevention. Dermatology : Total body skin checks for abnormal moles and skin cancers. Dermoscopy and biopsy of suspicious skin spots can help to plan appropriate treatment. Chronic Disease Management : Dr Middleton uses the GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements to help patients with chronic health problems to get access to care such as podiatry, physiotherapy and exercise physiology. He works closely with skilled health practitioners at Ellen Health and in the Fremantle community. Mental Health : Many GP consultations include a mental health component. This may include anxiety, grief and depression related to stresses at home or the workplace. Dr. Middleton works closely with a number of counsellors and psychologists in the Fremantle area as well as "One Healthy Community" and Alma Street Clinic. He utilises the commonwealth ATAPS (Access To Allied Psychological Services) and Better Access programmes to help patients gain rebates for their counselling consultations. Surgical Assisting : Regular weekly assistance at orthopaedic operations.
Other Interests
He is married to the most loyal supporter of the Fremantle Dockers and is now an "Empty Nester".
Dr. Middleton has lived in Fremantle since the 1980s and has Freo in the blood.
His 2nd home is the Swan River and South Beach paddling a club surfski with the Dockers old colours.
