Dr Matos graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. Initially dedicated to the delivery of Public Health to poor rural communities around the shanty towns of Lima.
He migrated to Australia in 1996 to complete the Master of Public Health in the University of New South Wales in Sydney. In 1999 he moved to the Gold Coast entering the Royal Australian of Physicians trainee Program at the Gold Coast Hospital then underwent Specialist training in Medical Oncology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and Royal Brisbane Hospital in Brisbane and at the Gold Coast Hospital finishing in 2009.
In 2010 took a full time Medical Oncology Consultant position at the Gold Coast Hospital. He currently share his time between his duties in the public Hospital and his private practice, providing high quality, and personalised outpatient and inpatient care of patients with solid organ malignancies.
Dr Matos is also committed to the teaching and training of advanced oncology trainees and undergraduate students from the Griffiths and Bond Universities. He is active member of the numerous multidisciplinary oncology meetings in the Public and Private sectors.
