Having grown up in Perth, Dr Marcelo Leal obtained both his medical degree at the University of Western Australia, and his passion for football supporting the West Coast Eagles. He moved over to Melbourne to undertake his paediatric training at Monash Children’s and the Royal Children’s Hospital, and in 2014 he completed his subspecialty training in paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He is currently working towards a PhD at the University of Melbourne and completed the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program at Harvard Medical School, Harvard University, in 2015 with Commendation.
