Dr Marc Le Mire is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist who practises at Wakefield Clinic, Tennyson Centre, Central Districts Hospital and visits Kapunda and Angaston. He is a senior staff specialist in the Gastroenterology Unit and Liver Clinic at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.


Born in Canada and raised in Adelaide, Dr Le Mire graduated from Flinders University in 1989 with the Staff Prize for Medicine in his final year. He trained first in infectious diseases medicine then gastroenterology in Adelaide, Darwin and Sydney. A research project looking at hepatitis B infection at the University of Adelaide followed and he was awarded the Young Investigator Award, Asia Pacific Digestive Week, 2001 and then a PhD in 2003.


After a liver fellowship in Oxford (UK) Dr Le Mire returned to Adelaide as Clinical Director of Gastroenterology, Lyell McEwin Health Service and senior staff specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he continues to work. His work has included the implementation of the first FibroScan service in South Australia and he is involved in postgraduate training and clinical trials. Dr Le Mire is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and member of the Gastroenterology Society of Australia and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide. Dr Le Mire and his wife, Louise, have three children. He enjoys tennis and bushwalking.


Dr Le Mire offers a broad range of services complemented by dieticians and an inflammatory bowel disease nurse: General gastroenterology including endoscopy and colonoscopy, bowel cancer prevention, coeliac, GORD and dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease including biological therapy, minor anorectal disorders including banding of haemorrhoids, multimodal management of IBS.
