Maged received his ophthalmology training at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. The advanced training year as a senior registrar and post training fellowship were at the same hospital in the field of general ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract and oculoplastic surgeries. He has been a consultant at this hospital since. He teaches surgery to ophthalmic registrars and senior registrars at the same hospital.

He has been an examiner with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) since 2001. In March 2012 he was the examiner in charge in the final fellowship examination (RACE exam) for the Australian and New Zealand registrars and overseas qualified ophthalmologists sitting their final fellowship examination.

In 2009 and 2010 through RANZCO and the Fred Hollows Foundation he collaborated in preparing, conducting and marking the first 2 specialist ophthalmology examinations in Cambodia. Maged has also been to Nepal performing cataract surgeries through The Fred Hollows Foundation.

For many years through The Victorian Medical Postgraduate Foundation he had been running the ophthalmology lectures and workshops for overseas medical graduates who were preparing for the Australian Medical Examination. Maged has published in peer review ophthalmology journals in cataract and oculoplastic surgeries.

Maged also practices at Ringwood Eye Specialists and operates at The Manningham Day Procedure Centre, Mitcham private hospital and The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He performs the Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS), phacoemulsification cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, oculoplastic surgeries (eyelid conditions including tumors and lacrimal system problems), as well as glaucoma surgery. Maged also injects Botox for blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm.
