Leonie was born in Brisbane and graduated in Medicine from the University of Queensland in 1980. She has a Diploma in Obstetrics (1986) and a Diploma in Sexual Health Medicine from the University of Sydney (1992).

After graduating from medical school, she worked for three years at the then Repatriation General Hospital Greenslopes caring mostly for veterans. She then worked for six years at the Mackay Base Hospital where she obtained extensive experience as a Registrar in all medical disciplines including two years in emergency and retrieval medicine.

In 1990 Leonie moved to Sydney working in Darlinghurst, for two years as a Registrar in the HIV Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital followed by a further two years in a nearby general practice. While dealing with the whole range of general practice issues, Leonie cared for and managed a large number of patients with HIV/AIDs, including provision of in-home palliative care.

Since returning to Brisbane in 1994 Leonie has worked in general practice. She is experienced in all aspects of general family medicine including women’s health, men’s health, children’s health, sexual health and antenatal care. She can also provide Shared Care to pregnant women attending any of the hospitals in the greater Brisbane area.

As well as providing home care for existing patients who are too unwell or frail to attend the practice, Leonie also provides continuing care to existing patients who move into a Nursing Home located within a reasonable distance from the practice.

Leonie has extensive experience in gay and lesbian health and has catered for the health needs of patients with HIV infection since 1987. She is an S100 prescriber for HIV medications and can also provide PEP.

Leonie is experienced in addiction medicine and has been a Methadone prescriber since 1992. She also prescribes Buprenorphine. These opioid substitutes are available only for existing patients of the practice.

Leonie is also certified to perform Diving Medicals for recreational divers.

As well as working at Greenslopes Family Practice, she also works two mornings per week as a Visiting Medical Officer at the Brisbane Sexual Health Clinic.

Leonie feels privileged to be able to help people with their health needs. She especially enjoys being involved in the continuing care of patients and their extended families throughout their lives as they deal with the ordinary and not so ordinary ‘stuff’ that life presents.
