Dr Lee Williams is a dedicated mental health physician with a special interest in mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders. Having completed his Generalist Psychiatry training in early 2017, he is currently undertaking post-fellowship training in the Dual Certificates of Adult Psychiatry and Psychotherapies in 2018. Born and raised in Queensland, Australia, Dr Williams later went on to study at James Cook University’s School of Medicine. Dr Williams was awarded both the Australian Medical Association Queensland Scholarship and the Commonwealth Scholarship. During his studies Dr Williams achieved top marks in Psychiatry and received the Mental Health Year 5 ‘Prize in Psychiatry’ and Medallion from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 2010. After completing his Internship, Dr Williams began specialist training in Psychiatry at the Gold Coast Hospital in 2012. During his six years of Psychiatry training he gained considerable experience in managing people with severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and personality disturbance. During his Advanced Training, he also worked in the private sector treating high prevalence disorders such as anxiety and depression. His leadership positions within the Gold Coast Mental Health Service have included being the Principal Registrar, Education Registrar, and serving on various steering committees and working groups dedicated to service development, suicide prevention, quality and safety, and education. Dr Williams also lectures at the Griffith University School of Medicine. Dr Williams remains actively engaged in the training and supervision of current Psychiatric Registrars and Fellows in the Gold Coast Mental Health and Specialist Services. He has research interests in music therapy for people with schizophrenia and the classification and treatment of personality disorders. In addition, he is the Queensland trainee representative for the Faculty of Psychotherapy. Dr Williams is pleased to one of the Managing Director’s of Ascent Psychiatry where he is delighted to work alongside psychiatrists who share his values of providing high quality patient care and support to families and carers.
