After completing Ophthalmology training in Brisbane in 1973, Dr English extended his eye training in Boston, USA. He then returned to Brisbane to commence private practice at Wickham Terrace, Clayfield and Margate.
He was then awarded the inaugural Allergan Traveling Scholarship. This was offered by the Coppelstone Post Graduate Medical Institute in Sydney. This resulted in another trip to the USA and a course in the early style of the developing technique of phacoemulsification.
Dr English then worked as a consultant at the Royal Brisbane Hospital for approximately 28 years with particular interests in cataract and IOL surgery and glaucoma management.
