Dr Keith Towsey is a general surgeon and gastrointestinal endoscopist at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Spring Hill.

After completing his medical degree at the University of Tasmania he did his internship and residency at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. After a short stint in the Regular Army as a medical officer, he commenced his surgical training in general surgery with numerous postings throughout Queensland. In 2008 he successfully completed his training in general surgery. In 2009 he completed a Fellowship in burns, trauma and complex abdominal wall reconstruction at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. In December 2009 he was appointed as a staff surgeon to Royal Brisbane Hospital. Dr Towsey has continued his affiliation with the Army as a reserve surgeon with deployments to the Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Samoa and most recently Papua New Guinea.

Currently he is appointed as a staff surgeon at the RBWH Burns unit maintaining his interest in burns and trauma. He is also a visiting specialist at the Redcliffe Hospital. In addition to burns, Dr Towsey has a keen interest in hernias and complex abdominal wall reconstruction having introduced laparoscopic component separation to RBWH for the management of large difficult ventral hernias. He also performs a wide range of general surgical procedures including endoscopy, open and laparoscopic hernia repairs, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and a range of colorectal operations.

He is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, General Surgeons Australia, and the Australia and New Zealand Burns Association.
