Dr Keith Ooi is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick and an Academic at the University of New South Wales. He specializes in all aspects of gastrointestinal, pancreatic, nutritional and liver conditions. He graduated from the University of Melbourne with the Clara Myers Prize in Paediatrics and started his gastroenterology training in Sydney Children’s Hospital. He further trained and also worked as a Consultant at the world renowned Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada during which time he received various awards in both the clinical and research arenas, including the Dick Hamilton Award (Hospital for Sick Children), Clinical Research Award (University of Toronto), Career Enhancement Award (Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program), Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Fellowship as well as multiple international Travel Awards/Scholarships. Since returning to Sydney, he had been the Convenor in Paediatrics (Phase 3) for UNSW School of Medicine and was also awarded a PhD for his contributions to research in cystic fibrosis and pancreatic diseases. Dr Ooi is an international authority and expert in gastroenterological conditions in cystic fibrosis and childhood pancreatic diseases. He is regularly invited to present at prestigious international and national conferences. He has also received multiple awards and accolades nationally and internationally, with the most recent being the “Dean’s Rising Star Award” from the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW in 2015. Dr Ooi is an author of numerous publications, including the highest impact journals in the field. To date, he has more than 50 publications in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He has published widely in pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, gut bacteria, eosinophilic oesophagitis and coeliac disease. Being an avid researcher, he has been successfully funded as a chief investigator by various research grants, totaling over $2 million to date, including from the National Institutes of Health (USA).
