Dr Katrina Rowan brings a warm and compassionate approach to caring for patients with a range of fertility related concerns. She appreciates the impact fertility issues can have on couples and approaches challenges with a refreshing combination of optimism and realism.
Katrina understands that all patients are unique and ensures she spends time explaining and exploring options, taking into account all aspects of their individual situation. Katrina graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours from Monash University, Melbourne. She then went on to train in Gynaecology and Surgery at the Royal Women's and Mercy Hospitals in Melbourne and the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.
After three years of training in the subspecialty of reproductive endocrinology and infertility - including a study comparing different IVF protocols - Katrina gained the CREI specialist qualification.
She also holds a Master of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales, has published research on the hormonal support of early pregnancy and has co-authoured guidelines for the treatment of infertility related to endometriosis.
She is a Visiting Medical Officer at Prince of Wales Private Hospital, St Luke's Private Hospital and Sydney Day Surgery and teaches medical students about fertility, miscarriage and IVF at the University of New South Wales. Katrina has a wide ranging practice and has particular expertise in polycystic ovary syndrome, recurrent miscarriage and endometriosis as well as general infertility and male factor infertility. She has an interest in helping patients with genetic disorders and fertility issues related to cancer treatments.
Katrina takes a holistic approach to infertility and treatment may include lifestyle advice, medical treatment to assist ovulation, minimally invasive surgery, IVF or genetic screening of embryos to avoid inherited diseases.
