Trained in Sydney, Perth and Heidelberg, Germany, Dr Williamson is a Respiratory and Sleep physician who commenced consulting at Macquarie University Hospital and Clinic in early 2012 as part of the Macquarie Respiratory and Sleep group.
Dr Williamson’s practice covers a wide range of respiratory and sleep pathologies including asthma, COPD, lung and airway infections, sleep disorders and lung cancer. He developed an interest in interventional procedures whilst training at Royal North Shore Hospital and further developed this interest at St Vincents Hospital, Darlinghurst in the lung transplant unit, and at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth completing a bronchoscopy-based PhD in 2010.
Since returning to Sydney, Dr Williamson has been based at Liverpool Hospital where he is establishing an interventional bronchoscopy unit for advanced diagnostic and therapeutic airway procedures. Dr Williamson list of procedures includes endobronchial ultrasound, rigid bronchoscopy for management of central airway obstruction, YAG-laser, cryotherapy, argon plasma coagulation, endobronchial lung volume reduction for management of emphysema and airway stent insertion for palliation of obstructing lung tumours
