Dr Joel Lasschuit is a Staff Specialist in the Department of Endocrinology at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. He holds Honorary appointments at Blacktown, Nepean, Prince of Wales, St George and Westmead Hospitals for the purpose of research while undertaking a PhD at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. He is a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New South Wales.
Dr Lasschuit completed a Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Honours) at the University of Sydney. He worked as a junior medical officer at Liverpool Hospital before entering physician training at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.
Endocrinology specialist training was completed between St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) was awarded in 2017. He has been involved in Physician Training since 2015 and is now an examiner for the RACP.
Dr Lasschuit has a keen interest in diabetes-related foot conditions, in particular a rare complication called Charcot foot. He is currently coordinating a novel randomised clinical trial for patients with Charcot foot across nine public teaching hospitals. Together with Dr Katherine Tonks he leads the High Risk Foot Service at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. He is also involved with the accreditation of High Risk Foot Services via the National Association of Diabetes Centres.
Additional areas of interest include wholistic treatment of diabetes, thyroid conditions and general endocrinology. He attends conferences in diabetes and endocrinology annually to keep up to date with best evidence-based practice.
