Dr Jessie Atkins is extremely happy to be working in the northern rivers where she grew up. She appreciates the variety of medicine that GP practice provides. From family planning and antenatal health, through to geriatrics and palliative care. As well as everything in between.

Having patients of different ages, genders and backgrounds keeps her on her toes. She enjoys getting to know her long term patients and encourages patient education and self management for chronic health conditions. Working as a GP she finds forming a strong therapeutic team with patients to achieve patient goals and improve a person’s health is one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

She was awarded the university graduate medal in 2002 at completion of her undergraduate studies in biomedical science at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Post graduate medicine was completed in 2006 at the University of Queensland, followed by internship at the Gold Coast Hospital in 2007. She was accepted into North Coast GP Training, training locally to become a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2012. She enjoys teaching both medical students and GP trainees. And she also enjoys learning something new every day from her patients.
