Associate Professor Jens Kilian graduated in Medicine at the University of Melbourne in 1994 and trained in Internal Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. He then specialized in Cardiology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he was later also Chief Medical Resident and in charge of the physician training program.


Following his specialty training he undertook postgraduate research at Sydney University’s Medical School and the Heart Research Institute which was supported by the National Heart Foundation. His work focused on the responses of the circulation to injury both in native coronary arteries and bypass grafts and ultimately led to the award of a PhD in 2005 by Sydney University.


Awarded the Thomas and Ethel Mary Ewing Travelling Fellowship, he subsequently trained in adult congenital heart disease at the Heart Hospital, University College London (UK) before returning to Sydney to take up and an appointment as staff Specialist at Bankstown Hospital and later Clinical Associate Professor (Medicine), University of NSW. Current research interests include clinical trials in acute coronary heart disease and cardiac arrhythmias.


Professional responsibilities have included being Head of Department of Cardiology at Bankstown Hospital, Membership of the Governing Council of Sydney South Western Area Health Service and Membership of the Board of the South Western Sydney Local Health District.
