BIO: Each and every person is unique; we each have our own histories, values, and attitudes that have shaped who we are and how we live. Despite our individual journeys, one thing we all have in common is that we will experience pain and suffering, which are inevitable parts of the human condition. Whether it’s health issues, financial struggles, relationship problems, or life transitions, some of life’s challenges can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and alone.
As a therapist, one of my first priorities is creating a safe and supportive space where my clients can feel less alone. Having a strong, collaborative alliance with my clients is important to me, and I firmly believe that it is an essential ingredient to effective therapy. Since every person is different, I am also curious about understanding each client’s uniqueness – their past experiences, their current challenges, and their strengths – and how this has shaped the way they interact with themselves, others, and the world. By doing so, I aim to help my clients cultivate an understanding of their past and present emotional and behavioural patterns, and in turn, greater self-compassion and agency. By developing new insights and skills, I hope to help my clients become better equipped to handle inevitable challenges to come, in order to live freer and better lives.
I have worked across clinic and public health settings with adults primarily experiencing depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, difficulties with regulating emotions, and complex trauma. I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and have worked in a specialist hospital service providing CBT for anxiety disorders. Having said that, I am interested in an integrative approach to therapy that draws from Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, depending on each client’s unique needs.
