Cosmetic Physician and Medical Director of Aesthetic Harmony Cosmetic Medical Clinic
My path to cosmetic medicine and my approach to aesthetics is unique and I would like to share it with you.
I have always been passionate about women’s heath even from the beginning of my medical career. This then developed more specifically into menopausal medicine where I, through the Canberra Menopause Centre, supported women through one of the most challenging times of our lives. I am yet to meet a woman who has not had any issue throughout her peri-menopause or menopause. It is a time of great physical and psychological change and unfortunately is not openly discussed in our society. My work in women’s heath and menopause medicine really raised my awareness of society’s views around mature women in the workforce. I witnessed how this life stage that every woman passes through, parallels so well with a more rapid aesthetic ageing. I realised that assisting with the physical and psychological challenges of menopause was not enough for some women and that by helping them to achieve a completely natural aesthetic enhancement could be life changing.
I have always marveled at the simple beauty within our world. It is what gives me peace and calm in my otherwise very busy and fast paced daily life. Whether it be a natural bush landscape, the flow of running water, the sound of bird song, the shape of the human form or the flight of a bird in the wild – the complexity and sophistication is hidden behind an apparent simplicity.
This reflects my aesthetic ideal, which is natural, timeless and elegant and is what I strive to create with my aesthetic treatments.
Everyone deserves, if they wish, to have aesthetic treatments, but I think one of the most important decisions to make is to choose a medical professional who shares your aesthetic ideals and goals. One of the best ways to do this it is to have a good talk to them first. This is something I absolutely insist on so we can make sure that we both feel that we are on the same aesthetic level.
The cosmetic industry is changing and growing rapidly and with it comes challenges for providers and patients alike.
I do believe that to the detriment of the industry that cosmetic medicine has become too commodified with too little regard and respect for medicine. There is a medical basis behind all the conditions that I see, whether dermatological or structurally related, so I believe it should be approached from a medical perspective and with a good aesthetic appreciation. This is my approach always.
I also believe that many of the treatments in the industry are performed without any treatment plan or regard for long term consequences for patients.
Whilst we all want to see an improvement quickly in any treatment that we seek, it is equally important to be mindful of longer term goals. For example, when I exercise, I feel better immediately, get an improvement in the medium term but I am also planning for my future. How I exercise now will have a significant impact on my body in the long term. I believe that aesthetic treatments should be no different. Following on from this, it is also important to make sure that the treatments we are having done now do not have any adverse consequences for our future. This is why I take the initial consultation together so seriously. I want to make sure we share the same aesthetics, make a plan for you for the short, medium and long term and of course make sure that everything I do is as safe as possible.
Education has dominated my life. Everything I do, I do with passion and I strive for excellence. Cosmetic medicine is no different. To ensure that my patients receive best practice, safe practice and current practice, I have and will continue to be educated to the highest standard. I have included a list of my professional qualifications.
I hope that this short story shows you a little of my approach. If this resonates with you then I would love to share your aesthetic journey with you.
