Dr Jason Wong completed his Medical School through Otago University, New Zealand in 2007. His aptitude for surgery was recognised early on, and he was accepted for specialist training in General Surgery just two years later.
He completed General Surgery training in 2014 having worked at various hospitals around New Zealand under many respected surgeons. During his training he was awarded The John McCall Medal at Auckland City Hospital for the best registrar, and a Lorenzo Capussotti Award and Travelling Scholarship from IASGO to present research in Vienna.
In 2015, Dr Wong undertook further sub-specialist training in Oesophagogastric and Bariatric at Auckland City Hospital, where he was also the Chief Surgical Resident. He moved to Brisbane in 2016, working as the inaugural Fellow in General Surgery at Redcliffe Hospital, further honing his techniques in endoscopy, laparoscopic hernia, anti-reflux, bariatric, colonic and emergency surgery.
He has a particular interest in gallbladder surgery, with expertise in performing the most difficult emergency gallbladder surgeries through keyhole surgery.
Dr Wong is noted for his pleasant bedside manner, approachability, holistic patient centred care, attention to detail and dedication towards his patients. His care for his patients extends beyond just performing their surgery.
He is pleased to join the Department of Surgery at Redcliffe Hospital as a Staff Specialist.
