Dr James Wong specialises in Medical Retinal disorders including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy as well as chorioretinal inflammatory disorders.

Dr Wong graduated from the University of Sydney in 1995 and completed his general ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. He has undertaken overseas fellowships in the United Kingdom, including specialist Medical Retinal and Uveitis Fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and a Clinical Ophthalmology Fellowship at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

Dr Wong has an ongoing interest in clinical and basic science research in disorders of the retina. He was awarded a Master of Medicine by the University of Sydney for laboratory research into age-related macular degeneration. He has presented research papers at Australian and international meetings, authored clinical and laboratory papers and has been a reviewer for international scientific journals. He is an investigator in International clinical research trials. He also has a keen interest in the teaching of ophthalmic registrars and is a consultant ophthalmologist in the Medical Retina Unit at Sydney Eye Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital.
