James Sweeney is a graduate of the University of Adelaide and completed General Surgical training in Adelaide and then completed specialist training in Colorectal Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and St Marks Hospital, London. He has worked as a Senior Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and was Head of the Colorectal Surgical Unit at Flinders Medical Centre from 2001-2013.
In addition to clinical interests in all aspects of colorectal surgery he has had a career long interest in Surgical Education and Training, Standards and Examination and is a past Senior Examiner in General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Chairman of the Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is former Deputy Chair and current Board member of St Andrew’s Hospital.
He continues to practice in the area of consulting and colonoscopy having ceased operative practice in early 2014.
