Dr James Collard is a clinical psychologist. He has worked in mental health for over 10 years, with experience in both the private and public sectors, including hospitals and community health settings. He is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and its Clinical College. Dr Collard has expertise in areas of both clinical and health psychology and has completed advanced training in cognitive behavioural therapy. This has included training in the traditional models of Cognitive Therapy (CT) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), and the more recent “3rd wave” models (eg ACT, MiCBT, etc). In his clinical practice Dr. Collard has experience working with people of all ages. He has worked with people experiencing a range of psychological and behavioural difficulties including depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, trauma and stress response disorders, anger issues and addictive behaviours. He also has experience working with people on relationship issues, behavioural problems, grief and chronic illness management. James works with both children and adults, providing individual, couples and family therapy. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Collard is also a lecturer at the Cairnmillar Institute. In his role there he provides postgraduate students with training in cognitive-behavioural therapy, clinical supervision and research supervision. He has also provided professional training services in cognitive-behavioural therapy around Australia and in Asia. Dr. Collard received his doctorate from Deakin University with a thesis examining the role of positive irrational beliefs in mental health and wellbeing. He has contributed to book chapters on cognitive-behavioural therapy and to both theoretical and research oriented papers advancing cognitive-behavioural therapy in international journals.
